Wind Turbine Technicians
Environmental Scan Report
There are over 25,000 wind turbines in the United States. Yet, less than thirty educational institutions nationally are offering training to become wind turbine technicians. This occupation is a poster child for Career and Technical Education in that it requires highly specialized skills and provides a living wage, yet only requires an AS degree or less! While the community college system ideal for providing training for wind turbine technicians, not all colleges in California are ideally positioned to take advantage of this opportunity.
This environmental scan report takes a statewide look at the wind energy industry, the wind turbine technician occupation, and the criteria a community college should consider in developing wind related programs.
